One woman "think tank" provides 10 unconventional solutions to personal crises...
[
Erie PA ] At age 15, when a family member attempted
suicide, she took charge when the adults around her didn't
know what to do. Now she dares you to challenge her with
your community or personal crisis.
After inheriting a private detective's phone number (in
Homeland Security Chief Tom Ridge's hometown), Andrea
Reynolds was besieged by calls from people who needed "How
do I ..." advice more than they needed surveillance of a
partner. To calm her anonymous callers Reynolds
brainstormed lists of do-able alternatives for them; some
of them were even a bit, well,
Reynolds, the author of such booklets asJump Start Your Creative Genius,OutSmarting Sweetheart Swindlers, and365 Critical Questions You Need to Ask Each Other Before You Marry says, "Even smart people, when faced with an anger- or anxiety-producing challenge, find it hard to see more than two options. I provide more options to choose from, which give them hope and confidence to make better choices and re-focus on their work and family."
How unconventional are her solutions? When she couldn't sell her own home because so many prospective buyers couldn't arrange financing, she decided to hold a contest andgive it away completely furnished to a struggling family. She's currently raising funds for her North American tour which she'll launch as soon as awinner is chosen.
Many of the questions Reynolds receives are aboutrelationship issues, work struggles, money crises, and coping withlife's most difficult challenges:
"How do I help a friend who denies her husband beats her?"
"How do I keep a roof over my head when I'm about to be homeless?"
"What can I do when my neighbors are bullies and the police do nothing?"
In her previous life as a civility specialist, Reynolds has been quoted in Success, Time, Entrepreneur, USA Today, and interviewed on national television by Dini Petty and British journalist David Frost and on Canadian radio by the late Peter Gzowski (CBC). She is a former member of Toronto's Community Police Liaison Committee and her smart thinking resulted in jailing a serial burglar.
Herself a survivor of a school shooting and a Belfast bombing, Reynolds also offers specific helpful ideas in the aftermath of today's school shootings, terrorist attacks, and other catastrophes. Some of the hard questions she has tackled...
"How do I rebuild my business after people were murdered there?"
"How do I go on, having witnessed a horrible act of violence?"
Currently available only as a speaker to organizations and on a private counseling basis, Reynolds is exploring new ways to make her advice available to more people and is compiling material for a possiblebook andnewspaper advice column."
Andrea Reynolds is available for interviews and speaking appearances to teach readers and audiences to brainstorm up to ten solutions to their specific How do I ...? challenges.
