Handy Ande becomes your Moving
Coordinator/Troubleshooter
Here's an example of a situation that
calls for a moving coordinator:
(Andrea has encountered these challenges.)
You're a single or
older person moving into your home or condo.
- You still
have more things to pack and you've run out of boxes.
- There are more things to pack in the truck but the truck
is full.
- You arrive to find the previous owners or tenants have
not moved out yet.
- Your phone and Internet services don't work and you can't
contact anyone to help you.
- You don't have the keys and the doors are locked.
- The home is not clean or ready to move in as you had been
promised.
- The carpets are soaked and nothing can be brought in.
- Your pet has a serious medical emergency and you can't be
in two places at once.
- The movers show up either sick, drunk or appear to be
incompetent.
- One of the movers keeps breaking things, damaging your
antique furniture and artwork, and dragging mattresses
through the mud.
- Your real estate agent is nowhere to be found.
- The service elevator is in use by someone else.
- The movers have not shown up and are already 2 hours
late.
- The bylaws say you cannot do any moving after 5 PM or on
Sunday and it's 4:30 PM on Saturday and you have a whole
truck to unload.
- You haven't eaten in 12 hours and you are hypoglycemic.
- The police show up because the neighbors think you are a
prowler.
- The street is torn up and the movers can't get to your
new house or find a place to park to unload.
- You want to order pizza and beer to celebrate the move
but you can't find your wallet or any cash.
- It's late and all you want to do is sleep, but your bed
still has to be set up and made.
Sounds like a nightmare doesn't it? Moving is stressful
enough without Murphy moving in, too. (Murphy's Law states
if anything can go wrong, it will.) Be smart, bring in a
support person who will anticipate
all the potential crises and
nip them in the bud, but also handle the unavoidable ones.
Andrea Reynolds has coordinated more than 90 moves from
apartment to apartment, neighborhood to neighborhood, city
to city, state to state and country to country. She'll help
you with packing, unpacking, furniture placement, shopping,
meal arrangements, bringing in reinforcements, anything
that needs to be done.
