Andrea Reynolds, Literary Agent and Speaker
Agent
On occasion I will represent a new or
established author who writes self-help and/or how-to works
(books, booklets, columns, articles, scripts, broadcasts,
public and private presentations, radio shows, etc.) Many
book and periodical publishers will no longer accept
submissions from authors directly and require agent-only
submissions.
As a former
publisher (since 1981) I have excellent knowledge of the
publishing industry and intellectual property rights, and
as a speaker agent I have negotiated greater fees and
better contracts for numerous
authors
who speak.
My work as your
literary agent is to help you present a marketable book
proposal, submit it on your behalf to only the most
appropriate publishers, and negotiate the best contracts
for you.
A signed agent-author agreement is required.
Submissions:
1. Please send a query
first.
Hint: Learn to write a
professional query letter.
2. Submissions may be sent by email, but only if I ask to
see it as a result of reading your query.
3. When asked, please send a professionally written
proposal. There are many books which teach you how. I make
an effort for those authors who make an effort.
4. We usually respond within a week, so please do not
submit to other agents and publishers simultaneously.
While there are no upfront evaluation or marketing fees for
services, there may be out-of-pocket expenses for printing,
courier, overnight deliveries that are covered by the
author upfront. This is now fairly standard in the
publishing industry. We require a nominal fee of $100 at
the appropriate time for those expenses which will be
supported by hard-copy receipts.
