All the reasons why you don't have an agent to negotiate higher fees and better contract terms for you. Check all those which apply:
Your Name:
*
Your Email:
*
Subject: Why I don't have a speaker agent to increase my speaking fees for me.
Your Web Site:
*
1. I'm already making more money than Bill Gates so why would I need an agent to get me more money?
2. I speak only to sell books; I don't care if I make any money speaking.
3. I want someone to only get me speaking engagements even though I have no experience or track record as a highly paid speaker.
4. I can't afford to hire a speaker agent now that I've hired a publicist.
5. My publicist/family/publisher says it's a bad idea.
6. My image of an agent is a fat, balding guy with a cigar in his mouth who talks tough and insults people, and I don't want someone like that representing me.
7. I don't make enough money speaking to give away 15-30% to someone else.
8. I'm not that good a speaker and don't deserve to earn more money by speaking.
9. I'd rather have my name affiliated with a dozen speaker bureaus who don't represent my interests, instead.
10. I have one fee that brings me speaking invitations and I don't care to change what's working for me.
11. My wife/husband/daughter acts as my agent and I don't want to cause any problems at home.
12. I started a non-profit organization and it wouldn't look right if I ask for more money for speaking.
13. I speak only at bookstores and other freebies.
14. The only speaking invitations I get are for no money or very small honoraria and it's not worth having an agent.
15. I have lots of time on my hands so I can do my own contract negotiations.
16. I am/have been a speaker agent.
17. If I earn any more money I'll be in a higher tax bracket. Or I'll have to pay more alimony or more child support.
18. I'm afraid of being a visible success and all the bad things that can happen to successful people.
19. I'm afraid to be rich; people will hate me and I'll lose friends and family members who think rich people are evil.
20. If I make considerably more money than my husband/partner, then he/she will feel less important and I might lose him/her.
21. I acknowledge I have a history of self-sabotage.
22. I have cultivated a reputation as a cheap person and giving someone else 15-30% of my speaking income would be a conflict for me.
23. I don't want to speak publicly any more.
24. My speaker bureau would drop me if I did.
25. I have already purchased your speaker contract template and 3 publications so I can represent myself (and eliminate you, Andrea).
26. Other reason?
27. If you did want assistance with achieving better speaking fees which of the following would you choose?
a. A contract template with a private tutorial.
b. A fee negotiation and contract writing class with other speakers.
c. Fee and contract negotiation on your behalf for a 25% commission from your fee.
d. Fee and contract negotiation on your behalf for a straight fee upfront.
e. Private advice to help you negotiate your own fees and contracts for a consulting fee.
f. A private critique of your current contract/agreement and fees.
g. A book or manual that shows you how to negotiate your own fees and contract terms.
