Host your own radio talk show: Create your own demo tape

Take the online class in April 2008 with Andrea Reynolds
24 lessons, starts Tuesday April 1, 2008 (for 3 weeks)

(See calendar for next class)

Whether you want to host your own show or co-host as a team, the first thing you will need is a demo tape to show radio station program directors and general managers what your show will be like and how professionally you can perform.

I used my demo tape to get
freelance (paid) hosting and co-hosting talk radio assignments in both Canada and the United States and also paid TV commentator positions on national TV in Canada. I've hosted live call-in radio shows on the "Three Rs" ... relationships, recipes, and real estate.

Below, read how you can register for the 24 lesson online class.

A live performance is better because it shows you have actual on-air experience and can interact with listeners. You need to show you have the charisma, confidence and credibility to be a popular talk show host and an asset to any station. The better the host you appear to be, the higher the fee you may be able to negotiate. A demo that is artificially created will be apparent to any radio station executive who listens to it.

A second benefit of using a live audition
: It will cost you a substantial amount of money to rent a recording studio and hire the services of a good talk radio coach and good sound editor. By hosting or co-hosting a live radio show, there's virtually no cost to you... with the exception of your travel expenses to and from the radio station and a few blank audio cassette tapes.

Are you ready to learn how to create your demo tape?

Class Structure

1. One email lecture a day, 7 days a week, for 3 weeks.
2. Go at your own pace. You don't have to be at your computer at any special time.
3. Work alone or with a registered buddy.
3. Ask Andrea questions at any time, through our private discussion list.
4. Get support and inspiration from your fellow future talk radio hosts.
5. Complete homework assignments which will lead you to your goal.

Method: You'll get a lesson from me each day and you'll also be on a private, small group, Yahoogroups discussion list (short-term) where everyone in the class can post comments, questions and requests for brainstorming. I encourage introductions.

You will receive all the questions I receive and all the answers and examples I provide to each member of the class. If there is enough interest I'll keep the list open past the last class for helpful interaction.

You don't need to be online at any specific time, you just need to be signed up for the class in enough time to get all the materials and communications.

I also ask that the discussion list correspondence not be made available to non-paying students. I have an
honor system: if two or more of you are using the materials you must pay for two or more people. You're on your honor.

Kindly register no later than 3 days before the first day of class
so I can see how many students are committed to the class.

Note
: I know this class will give you the techniques you need to perform well in a live talk radio audition. However, there is no way to guarantee that your audition performance will generate paid radio hosting assignments, nor is there any way to guarantee that the radio station(s) of your choice will grant you a live audition. But I do give you the tips I used to become a co-host at the largest talk radio station in Canada and host of 3 shows in the US.
